Marzena Sowa’s biography Born in Poland in 1979, Marzena Sowa arrived in France in 2001 at the Michel de Montaigne University in Bordeaux to complete her modern letters studies that she started in Krakow. By chance, it is around that time that she meets Sylvain Savoia. As she was recounting to him her childhood in a communist Poland in the years 1980s, the idea of adapting her story into a comic book arises. Subsequently, she learns the job of screenwriter while discovering the medium. Savoia takes care of the design. As a result, in 2004, was born the first volume of Marzi, published by Dupuis. The series will evolve in seven opuses and then adapted into a graphic novel in three volumes, before being gathered together in two integrals at Aire Libre in 2019 and 2020. Recognized internationally, this drawn autobiography is not only nominated at the Angoulême Comics Festival but also at the Eisner Prize. In 2020, with Sylvain Savoia, she adapts Gaël Faye’s book « Petit Pays » at Aire Libre, a novel inspired by the life of the composer-narrator telling the story of a little boy witnessing the civil war in Burundi and the Rwandan genocide in the early 1990s.
